Temps in the mid 70's, blue bird sky, and winds out of the east, it was a great day to take a Fall Color Tour. I appreciate the beautiful of Mother Nature's Fall splendor but it wasn't leaf watching we(fishing partner ReefRaker) sot out. The color was Gold as in Golden Eyes in a particular lake we were after and we weren't disappointed.
I didn't take long to figure out these fish were still on mid lake humps. Topping out at 6' and breaking in to 12' of water we found our Golden Eyes using all of that hump.
We choose a jig and minnow, Scenic Tackles Pro Series Jigs w/Super Sharp Stickkkkky hooks to be exact. The bite was extremely light, couple that with eyes holding tight to the boulders meant you didn't set the hook on everything you felt, you had to feel the difference first. Not once did the tip of my hook curl over from getting a workout in the rocks and that translates to more hookups.
We took home our alloted Gold all in the 16-18" range. My partner released a 24" eye and I CPR'd this 28.5" gal - Click Here.
