Ice fishing season is in full swing, and the fishing has been good. Not too many lakes are seeing vehicle traffic due to snow, but the warm weather has reduced the amount of snow so may be some cold weather will open some lakes up to driving. Panfishing has been very good with reports of big gills, and slabs falling victim.
Most fish are suspended over deeper water, but some reports of fish coming out of water as shallow as 3 feet have come in. Waxies, Eurolarvae, and crappie minnows are all bringing in panfish with waxies and larvae doing the most damage on small vertical or horizontal jigs.
Walleye fishing, as usual, is hit or miss and time sensitive but those willing to do some work to find fish are having luck. Set lines with fatheads or shiner, and jigging spoons are turning the most eyes. A lot of popular lakes are not being hit too hard as some spots are unreachable by vehicle, keeping those without ATV’s or Sled’s from fishing them.
Sunday the 13th will hold our second annual DL forum gathering on Height of Land lake in search of all species of fish, come on out and join us for a great time.
